Plein air pastels

The works are done on D’Arches or Fabriano 140lb hot press rag paper, using mostly Unison, Sennelier, and Rembrandt soft pastels. I have about 250 colors that I use – at least 75 different greens.

Plein air oils

An overview of all of the plein air works is in the "Artist Statement." These works in oil are particularly concerned with the seasons.

Plein air watercolors

These watercolors were done on a variety of acid-free cold-press papers. Like the rest of the plein air works, they were done from direct observation of the sites.

Heart series

This series is very different from much of my other work. It began in the spring of 2003. The pieces reflect some meditations on memory, pain, healing and love. To date I have as completed over fifty works in this series. They all involve the image of a heart, and have to do with a progression – or journey. As it has developed, the heart has come to represent less something immediately personal, and more a representation of a force within us all, something that tries to learn and grow.

Contructions

These works are related in media and structure. Some of them are part of the Heart Series, and others are more concerned with text, poetry, and memory. So they do overlap.

Other projects

This is a record of the construction of one piece, which grew from a small idea into something much longer, time-consuming and fun. It is not the first time this has happened, so other pieces will be added to this gallery....
